Lots Happening with Few Updates

I've been making things...I swear.
I made these wall sconces made a couple of months ago:

They're bent ash laminations that hang on the wall with just two screws:

I also just made this floor lamp to go along with the wall sconces.

It is also a bent ash lamination with bent metal legs (with dipped rubber tips!):

Other things are in process, don't worry.

Poplar Hanging Lamp

I like poplar. It has nice contrast between the heartwood and the sapwood, it's pretty easy to work with and it ages nicely. Plus I have some laying around so I turned this hanging lamp this weekend.
We're still trying different bulbs with it. The first one was an LED bulb that was way too bright when you looked at the bulb. Now we have a chrome bottom bulb in it. It's nice but seems a bit too dim. But it'll do for now.

Poplar Bowl

I've been turning a few things lately including some French rolling pins that are for sale at Capital Kitchen in Montpelier, VT. But what excites me the most about turning is the ability to take a log of wood, freshly cut down, and turn it into a bowl. Bellboy (bellboynyc.com) had some poplar logs laying around awhile back and I finally found some time to turn one.
I'm happy with the results. I still need some practice at finishing the base of the bowl but I am getting better. And you can't see it in the picture anyhow some in this case I'm off the hook.
Poplar is underrated. Fact.
